🎣 Fishtrackers Update: Large Catfish Spotted in Local Waters

Hey everyone—big update from the Fishtrackers team coming out of Woodhaven Shores, Virginia.

Recent monitoring has picked up activity involving a large catfish estimated at approximately 50 lbs, first observed in a quiet backwater bay in Kent Lake within the local water system. What started as a routine movement check quickly turned into something a little more unusual.

📍 Last Known Movement

The fish was initially tracked moving through a low-traffic backwater bay in the lake, where it appeared to be moving slowly and deliberately—behavior consistent with a large, mature catfish navigating shallow structure zones.

From there, it was later detected heading toward the bay in front of the dam, a known transition point where deeper current channels meet calmer waters.

And then… things got interesting.

📡 Signal Loss & Visual Confirmation Gaps

Shortly after entering the dam-front bay area, tracking signals became inconsistent. Camera systems briefly confirmed movement before the fish slipped out of clear visual range.

At this point, the catfish has not been conclusively re-identified on radar or camera feeds, though monitoring continues in surrounding zones.

🧭 Current Assessment

Based on movement patterns and environmental behavior, the Fishtrackers team believes the catfish is likely:

  • Searching for a nesting or sheltering area
  • Moving through smaller pocket-bays and side channels nearby
  • Taking advantage of low-traffic, structured water zones for cover

These smaller bays often provide ideal conditions for large catfish to rest, feed, or establish temporary territory.

👀 Ongoing Search Efforts

Surveillance teams are actively:

  • Re-checking side channels and shallow coves
  • Reviewing camera footage frame-by-frame
  • Monitoring sonar returns for large bottom-dwelling movement
  • Expanding the search radius around the dam-adjacent waters

If the fish reappears, it will likely be in one of the nearby sheltered inlets.

🐟 What This Means for Anglers

For anglers, this is a great opportunity to hop in the boat or kayak, put out some stink baits in the tiny little ‘pocket bays’ and coves littered around and try to catch a giant.
